Welcome our new Erasmus+ Creative Industries interns: Breaking the Patterns Project

At Synopsis we have recently had a pleasure to coordinate another inspiring project based in the Portuguese capital. In collaboration with the local and Irish partners, the project called “Breaking the Patterns” has just arrived to Lisbon. The project, financed by Erasmus +, aims at nurturing creativity through international art residencies, exhibitions, dedicated mentorship, and professional development opportunities. Seventy-two participants from Ireland, Portugal, Greece, and Spain will showcase their work in eight self-managed exhibitions across Dublin, Lisbon, Crete, and Seville.

This initiative specifically targets and supports emerging Irish & international visual artists who face challenges in advancing their artistic practice due to financial, social, or lack of resources.

The project was inaugurated this year and started in Seville, Spain, where the first group of Irish artist arrived in the beginning of this year to gain this valuable professional & artistic experience. The first two exhibitions were successfully held in Seville in April and June 2024:

”This initiative, organised by the artists themselves, is a joint reflection where any artistc expression, within the visual arts area, has a place: performance, painting, video-creation, installation, photography, collage, sculpture, illustration and graphic design.

The showcasted works are the result of participating in a series of training activities (workshops, talks and visits) related to creativity, curation and visual arts.” https://breakingthepatterns.eu/exhibitions/sevilla/

The project in Lisbon will last for 3 months. A bunch of 6 talented emerging Irish artists has arrived in Lisbon one month ago and they will be pursuing their artistic goals by a solid practice in the studio space situated on the other side of the Tagus river, facing directly the beauty of the Portuguese capital.

Moreover the interns will have an opportunity to gain a proper professional working experience while interning in different studios, galleries and cultural hubs located in Lisbon. Synopsis together with our local partner, Nowhere Lisbon, will be in charge of making sure that all runs smoothly and the participants are making the most of their experience!
